ABOUT

Character Dance Ensemble (CDE) is a group of dedicated ballet majors from the School of Dance at the University of Utah. The Ensemble's mission is to provide dancers with academic and performance-related opportunities in different dance styles from around the world, enrich the student experience through travel and cross-cultural interaction, and share their international experience with the University of Utah and greater Salt Lake City communities.

Since its inception in 1995, CDE has studied and presented character, folk, ethnic, historical, and national dance forms from across the world. This international research and practice informs their study of dance as a whole, broadens their perspective, and enhances their versatility as dancers. CDE is eager for opportunities to continue their research of the authentic roots of international dance forms and also share their repertoire through performances, lecture/demonstrations, and community partnerships.
